Cabarete y Sosua
A short distance east of Playa Dorada you will find the lively villages of Cabarete and Sosua.
Cabarete is an energetic town with a diverse population, international cuisine and an active night life. Cabarete is located in a unique place that offers stable trade winds, making it perfect for kitesurfing, water skiing and sailing. Every year is celebrated “The Caribbean Laser Midwinter Regatta” that brings together current and past Olympic champions and the Kitesurfing World Cup that attracts professionals and spectators to see the exciting action.
The Cabarete Jazz Festival features famous jazz musicians and is a popular event that uses the ocean as a perfect backdrop. Cabarete also sponsors an international arena cast competition where adults and children can participate.
Boca de Yásica is the river exit where you can practice wakeboarding and kiteboarding in a calm water lagoon and hang out with the locals on a Sunday afternoon eating fresh seafood and listening to merengue and bachata.
A few miles west of Cabarete is Playa Encuentro. This secluded beach comes alive early in the morning when it attracts crowds to surf in big waves. It is home to the surfing category of the Redbull Masters of the Ocean competition where participants battle with the waves called The Destructor, Coco Pipe and La Preciosa.
El Choco National Park is located between Cabarete and Sosúa and is made up of seventy-seven square kilometers of jungle, lagoons, caves, forests and outdoor field. It is home to Monkey Jungle where you can personally approach new friends and Zip Line Adventure where you can fly between mountain tops.
